Event chairs

Gary J Ahern, AIA


Gary founded Focal Point Design in 1989. Since then, he has been personally responsible for over a half-billion dollars of residential, multifamily, commercial, and retail projects. Gary has been involved with Rebuilding Together Peninsula’s Dreams Happen event since 1999, designing a playhouse each time. He has co-chaired the event since 2003. Gary is on the Board of Directors for Rebuilding Together Peninsula and has assisted with renovation projects in a variety of ways.

Kim Boyanowski

Event Co-chair

Kim is a life-long volunteer in both the community and in her profession. She is currently an active volunteer at Gideon Hausner Jewish Day School in Palo Alto, is the past Chair of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology’s Foundation, a longtime volunteer for the Junior League of Palo Alto Mid-Peninsula and is past President of the Peninsula Veterinary Medical Association. She held various leadership positions with the Junior League including Co-Chairing the Junior Leagues Home Tour. Kim is a current member of Rebuilding Together Peninsula’s Board. She has also served on the Dreams Happen committee since 2003. She credits her years with the Junior League of Palo Alto-Mid Peninsula in preparing her for the variety of leadership roles she has held. Besides her community involvement, Kim is the owner of Peninsula Animal Dermatology in San Carlos.

Jennie Lang

Event Co-chair

Jennie has had quite the busy life since finishing school. Right out of college she spent time in Washington, D.C. working in the U.S. House of Representatives, after moving on to California to work at Oracle in Sales and Sales Operations. After having children, Jennie focused her efforts on community volunteer opportunities. She joined the Junior League of Palo Alto Mid-Peninsula in 1998 and has been a very active member serving in various leadership roles, such as Administrative VP and Membership Development VP on the board of directors. Jennie has also been highly involved in her daughters’ school events and is chairing the Book Fair for the sixth year. She has been serving on the Dreams Happen committee since 2005, serving in different capacities the past five events. Jennie also serves as a guild member at Menlowe Ballet and does volunteer work with Children’s Health Council, Menlo Park Atherton Education Foundation, and National Charity League. When Jennie isn’t out in the community, she enjoys traveling, being in the outdoors, dancing, and fitness. Jennie is very thankful for her family, friends and the opportunity to serve her community.

John E. McNellis


John McNellis co-founded McNellis Partners in 1982 and has devoted his career to the construction and renovation of shopping centers in Northern California. A graduate of Hastings College of The Law and the University of California at Berkeley, John is a member of the Urban Land Institute and the ICSC. He serves as a ULI National Trustee and Council Councilor. He has chaired his ULI Council and has served on the board of directors for Lambda Alpha International (Golden Gate Chapter). John is a past president of the board of directors of Rebuilding Together Peninsula and currently serves on its board. He is also a member of the national board of directors of Outward Bound USA. He has also served on the board of directors for the Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center and is a weekly volunteer with the Urban Ministry’s Food Closet project. In each of the cities in which McNellis Partners has a major project, the partnership has established an annual college scholarship for underprivileged high school seniors.
