Event chairs


John Onken, AIA, Playhouse Chair
Before serving in the role of Playhouse Chair, John had been creating playhouses for Dreams Happen since 2011. His work as an architect has focused on larger buildings as well, with award winning projects in the San Francisco Bay Area and England. John’s current work focuses on large affordable housing projects in San Francisco.


Kim Boyanowski, Event Co-Chair
Kim is a life-long volunteer in both the community and in her profession. She is currently an active volunteer at Gideon Hausner Jewish Day School in Palo Alto, is the past Chair of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology’s Foundation, a longtime volunteer for the Junior League of Palo Alto Mid-Peninsula and is past President of the Peninsula Veterinary Medical Association. She held various leadership positions with the Junior League including Co-Chairing the Junior Leagues Home Tour. Kim is a current member of Rebuilding Together Peninsula’s Board. She has also served on the Dreams Happen committee since 2003. She credits her years with the Junior League of Palo Alto-Mid Peninsula in preparing her for the variety of leadership roles she has held. Besides her community involvement, Kim is the owner of Peninsula Animal Dermatology in San Carlos.


Jennie Lang, Event Co-Chair
Jennie has had quite the busy life since finishing school. Right out of college she spent time in Washington, D.C. working in the U.S. House of Representatives, after moving on to California to work at Oracle in Sales and Sales Operations. After having children, Jennie focused her efforts on community volunteer opportunities. She joined the Junior League of Palo Alto Mid-Peninsula in 1998 and has been a very active member serving in various leadership roles, such as Administrative VP and Membership Development VP on the board of directors. Jennie has also been highly involved in her daughters’ school events and is chairing the Book Fair for the sixth year. She has been serving on the Dreams Happen committee since 2005, serving in different capacities the past five events. Jennie also serves as a guild member at Menlowe Ballet and does volunteer work with Children’s Health Council, Menlo Park Atherton Education Foundation, and National Charity League. When Jennie isn’t out in the community, she enjoys traveling, being in the outdoors, dancing, and fitness. Jennie is very thankful for her family, friends and the opportunity to serve her community.


Brian M. Hetherington, Underwriting Chair
Brian Hetherington is CEO and Co-Chairman of The ABD Team, a specialized insurance brokerage headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area. The ABD Team is 210 professionals focused on Employee Benefits, Property & Casualty insurance and 401k programs. Brian started The ABD Team with 24 other founding principals in July 2012. Brian attended Northwestern University for his BA, Northwestern's Kellogg Graduate School of Business and Stanford Law School's Directors College. He is married to Jill Schaeffer Hetherington, and is the proud father to their three boys. Brian sits on Rebuilding Together Peninsula’s Board of Directors and serves as the current Chair, as well as sitting on the board of Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation. Brian loves music (currently playing piano and accordion in a local band Birdseeds), lacrosse (coaching for the Coyotes), and golf.
