Palo Alto homeowner, Candi, was born and raised in the home she now shares with her husband, who is blind and, until recently, her elderly mother. When her mother began experiencing the effects of dementia, it became clear the home needed critical safety repairs. Candi reached out to RTP for help. She commented: “For someone to come in and help, especially when you are taking care of kids and seniors, it makes a huge difference for the person in the caregiving role who may be financially and emotionally strapped at the same time.”
RTP Technician, Frank Tijerina, completed repairs designed to improve safety and accessibility throughout the home. He replaced the toilet with a contemporary model for easier use, installed new hinges on an interior door and the backyard gate, added a carbon monoxide detector and fire extinguisher, installed safety rails along the garage stairs, and replaced the kitchen screen door.
She appreciated how Rebuilding Together Peninsula helps families remain safely and comfortably in their homes, especially in communities where many homeowners are battling financial pressures and working multiple jobs.
Candi shared, “These may be little things, but they’re big things for us. The repairs have taken away a lot of worry,” she said.
