If you’ve spent time around our warehouse lately, you may have met Daniel. A Bay Area native, Daniel started volunteering with us in December and has been a big help behind the scenes, organizing tools and keeping things running smoothly.
Daniel was introduced to us through a longtime nonprofit partner, Kainos. Many sponsored teams over the years have provided critical repairs and upgrades for Kainos’ residential group homes and training center, including W.L. Butler Construction, Webcor, Truebeck Construction and Commercial Casework. Kainos’ Work in Action program helps participants build real-world job skills through supported, hands-on work in the community. At RTP, that means learning about tools and repairs, practicing organization skills, and completing tasks in a busy work environment. Quick to smile, open and friendly, Daniel’s gotten to know the RTP staff and has quickly become a valued member of the team.
But this isn’t Daniel’s first experience with RTP. He volunteered on project sites in the past, where he helped build a fence and painted – work he says he really enjoyed. When he’s not volunteering, Daniel likes watching movies like Harry Potter and travels yearly to Disneyland, where the Indiana Jones ride is his favorite.
This new partnership with RTP and Kainos has been a great experience for all and demonstrates how, collectively, we can support meaningful work in multiple ways and, thereby, strengthen our community. And Daniel agrees. He encourages anyone interested in volunteering to “give it a try – you’ll like it here, especially if you’re handy.”
