When will repair work be performed?
Rebuilding Together Peninsula provides safe and healthy-housing repairs at no-cost to homeowners and community facilities that meet our eligibility requirements. We will work with you, the homeowner or facility owner, to determine what your repair needs are, including specific requests made on your application.
Scheduling repair work depends upon eligibility review, evaluation of the specific scope of work needed, staff and/or volunteer team availability. Smaller repair needs may be serviced in our Safe at Home program, while larger projects may be reserved for a Rebuilding Day.
While we realize that many repair needs are urgent, it may take several months for scheduling to occur based on the above several factors.
Can a community facility apply for repairs?
Yes! We welcome applications from fellow nonprofit organizations that service communities-in-need in San Mateo County and northern Santa Clara County. Please visit our Apply for Repairs page for more information on eligibility and to download an application form.
Who pays for the repairs?
We offer our repair service at no cost to project recipients, through the generous support of our sponsors, donors, and community grants. For more information on how to support our work in servicing our neighbors-in-need, please visit our Donate page or our Sponsorship page.
Volunteer FAQs
How can I volunteer?
Volunteers are the backbone of much of the home repair and renovation work we perform. If you’re interested in helping us service the needs of homeowners throughout the Peninsula community, please visit our Volunteer page for information on the variety of roles available and to fill out an application.
Is there an age-limit to volunteer with RTP?
Yes, we have a minimum age requirement of 14-years-old for volunteers to work with us, either in the office or a project site.
Will I have to sign a waiver?
Yes, we do require all volunteers to sign a standard waiver before working in our office or on a project site. Our waiver can be found online here to download, print, and sign ahead of a shift. Signed waivers need to be returned to your Volunteer Captain or RTP representative before being allowed to work. Note, volunteers under the age of 18-years-old will be asked to submit a Minor Medical Waiver as well.
I am interested in participating on National Rebuilding Day…do I have to pre-register?
Yes! We plan work scopes, job assignments, and other site logistics based on volunteers that have pre-registered for a Rebuilding Day event, and we are not currently able to accommodate walk-up volunteers on the day. If you are interested in volunteering as a skilled Captain, let us know with an application. Or, if you are interested in sponsoring a team experience on a Rebuilding Day, contact us at sponsorship@rtpeninsula.org.
Do I need home repair skills / What if I have home repair skills?
A variety of roles may be available for individuals without specific repair skills – photographer, runner, warehouse help, office work, etc. Please visit our Volunteer page for information on the variety of roles available. Note, on a project site, a skilled Construction Captain will assist you with any work needed.
If you are skilled with home repair, make sure to alert your project’s Volunteer Captain, or list your relevant skills on our Volunteer Application form – we want to meet you!
How should I dress for a Rebuilding Day?
We suggest wearing long pants and closed-toe shoes for safety, and be sure to dress according to the weather conditions. We do recommend layers, especially in northern and coastal San Mateo County where the fog banks tend to live. Remember a hat on sunny days, and to wear clothes you are willing to get dirty – and even paint splattered! We’ll give you a t-shirt when you check-in (this also helps to make our photos look nice), and we’ll also provide sunscreen and relevant PPE (face masks, goggles, gloves, etc.).
Will there be water and/or refreshments on a Rebuilding Day?
Yes, we will have water available throughout the workday for all of our volunteers. Depending on the specific project site, lunch may be provided as well. Please check with your Volunteer Captain on the specific lunch plans for your work site.
What work needs to be done?
Every project site is different! General home repairs could include painting, landscaping, fencing repair, debris removal, and basic carpentry work. The more skilled a volunteer team is, the more complex the work might be. A Construction Captain or skilled technician will always be assigned to each project site to ensure safety and guidance.
What if I have a group of volunteers?
Many of our volunteer projects rely on sponsored teams. Please visit our Group Volunteer description on our Volunteer page, or our Sponsorship page for more information.
