RTP’s Rebuilding Days
Celebrate Rebuilding Day
On our Rebuilding Days, RTP partners with community sponsors and volunteer teams to renovate multiple homes and community facility sites across San Mateo County and northern Santa Clara County. This repair and rehabilitation work supports our vision of safe homes and communities for everyone, and fulfills our mission to revitalize communities and rebuild lives.
Rebuilding Day projects take place across the San Francisco Peninsula, from Daly City to Mountain View, and Coastside to Bayside, at home sites and community facilities with repair needs suitable for teams of varying skill and sizes.
Rebuilding Day Sponsorship
Sponsorship is a key way to support RTP through critical funding and labor, while providing concrete and long-lasting impact for our shared neighbors. Sponsorship can also foster community responsibility, visibility, and service for participating organizations and their team members who volunteer as a team.
Learn more about a Rebuilding Day sponsorship and the opportunity for a rewarding service experience for volunteers of all skills and varying team size in the link below.
Rebuilding Day Volunteers
RTP welcomes sponsored volunteer groups and individuals looking to serve the Peninsula community on a rewarding day of service.
Common general volunteer team work might include fence repair (demo / replacement), painting, landscaping, and debris removal. Some sites also invite general volunteers to assist with accessibility ramp installations, carpentry work or other light repairs, all under the supervision of skilled Site Captains.
General volunteers can also help with volunteer check-in, project site photography, and project planning.
More skilled teams might be tasked with enhanced safety-related repairs, such as remodeling needs, flooring repair, plumbing, lighting repair, and more.
Whichever the site, a Rebuilding Day experience is an opportunity to contribute meaningful, visible, and lasting change for a member of our shared community.

Rebuilding Day Origins
Once upon a time in 1973…
A group of Midlands, Texas neighbors came together to address needed repairs at the homes of fellow community neighbors. Inspired to put this spirit of service into action every spring, ‘Christmas in April’ was born.
That spirit grew nationally, eventually leading to the 1988 foundation of what is now known as Rebuilding Together. Today, affiliates across the United States continue to celebrate National Rebuilding Month every April and National Rebuilding Day on April’s last Saturday, in partnership with community leaders, funders, and other service-minded groups and individuals to ensure safe and healthy spaces.

“This is the best thing that could have happened to me. I am so grateful to all the volunteers and Rebuilding Together for everything. Everyone was great, and I love my house now.”
-Shirley, a San Mateo County homeowner
