We last spoke with Mona Faham, our Americorps project coordinator, in the fall shortly after she began working at RTP. After several months in her role, we wanted to find out what she’s been up to and what she has learned so far. Mona helps with various projects in the office and with client intake. She used Google Sheets to set up a new system for tracking homeowner documents, which can automatically be uploaded to Salesforce. During Spring ReBuild, she helped organize and deliver supplies to ensure that each site had what was needed.
“I’ve met lots of different people and learned through their life experiences,” Mona said. “I’ve been able to gain more perspective on the challenges they face and how easily we can take things for granted. Having a home is something we might assume that everyone has — but not everyone does.”
The support Mona provides has a tremendous impact on RTP. “It’s helpful to have an Americorps volunteer because it can move things along quicker,” she said. “Everybody on staff has a lot to do, and I can provide necessary support that might not be met otherwise.” Leading up to the Spring ReBuild, and in particular, National Rebuilding Day, Mona felt especially valuable because there was a tangible deadline that needed to be met and a lot that needed to be done with so many projects taking place on one day. “I felt like I made a positive contribution,” she said.
