Dianne has lived in the house her mother purchased since 1973. Today she shares the single-story home with her brother, son and daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren. With no repair work or maintenance done for 53 years, the house was showing signs of wear.
That’s when RTP came in to help. First a group of volunteers from Tencent and Sequoia High School replaced the backyard fence, which had been supported by old boards to keep it from collapsing. RTP then worked with Renewal by Anderson to coordinate the installation of new windows throughout much of the house. “The windows would shudder like they were going to break when somebody drove by playing loud music,” Dianne said. “And it was cold in here!” The latter problem was mostly due to a hole that allowed cold air into the house.
In addition to the team of volunteers, Dianne’s son and daughter-in-law helped with the repairs, as well as RTP Technicians, Frank Tijerina and Jesse Leandro. Dianne showed her appreciation by making sandwiches for everyone. Now, thanks to the new windows, Dianne no longer has to run the heat on cooler days, and she feels safer. As for the fence, it has improved Dianne’s life as well. “Oh my goodness, it’s so good to look outside and see the new fence,” she said. “It’s perfect and beautiful, and I’m grateful for it.”
